As we launch the first edition of The Question Mark Sentinel on this Independence Day of 1932, it is with a sense of solemn duty and unwavering commitment to the truth. The inception of this newspaper comes at a time when our town stands at a crucial crossroads, shadowed by revelations of a conspiracy by populist Lt. Mayor Gabe Hartford and the Town Council to murder and replace our own democratically-elected Mayor J R Bullard.
Having witnessed the horrors and the pivotal role of information during the Great War as a foreign correspondent, I, Samuel Lindholm Sr., have invested my family’s fortune into this venture. The Sentinel is more than a newspaper; it is a beacon of transparency and accountability, a guardian against the darkness of corruption and deceit.
Our mission is to shine an unrelenting light on the shady, backroom dealings and corrupt practices that fester in the corners of our town. The Question Mark aristocrats, robber barons, politicians, and power-grabbers shall find no shadows to lurk in, no corners to hide their misdeeds. We will hold them accountable, for the pen, as I have learned, is always mightier than the sword.
Our town, rich in history and character, deserves a press that speaks truth to power, that safeguards the public interest, and that upholds the principles of justice and integrity. The Sentinel pledges to be the vigilant eye and the voice of the people, unafraid to confront the uncomfortable, to unearth the buried, and to challenge the status quo.
As we embark on this journey, we invite you, the citizens of Question Mark, to join us in this endeavor. Let us together foster a community where truth prevails, where justice is served, and where every voice is heard. This is our mission; this is our vow to you: Out of darkness comes the light.
